Youth central - Bands battle it out

15/10/2008 9:40:00 AM
LOCAL young people are gearing up for the Switch Battle of the Bands competition on October 31.

After months of preparation and auditions, the judges have chosen three bands to compete in the final at the Bonnyrigg Youth Centre's Halloween Party.

A Bad Days Good Night was the first band to qualify after winning the first heat on September 5.

After the second heat, Three Quarter Effort booked a berth in the final after impressing the crowd and judges during their performance.

Joining the two heat winners in the final will be wildcard entrant Falling Through The Labyrinth.

Smithfield resident and Three Quarter Effort guitarist Aidan Kajan said he was looking forward to the final.

``We have put in a fair bit of work,'' he said. ``After winning the heat we're all feeling pretty confident.''

In addition to prizemoney, entrants can win a recording studio session. But the main attraction for the bands is the opportunity to perform at this year's Fusion Festival, an opportunity that will become reality for the best band on the night.

Details: 7pm-midnight, $5 before 8pm, $10 after, 27 Bonnyrigg Avenue, Bonnyrigg.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
