FAIRFIELD Labor councillor Lawrence White has denied any wrongdoing in relation to a question raised by Liberal councillor Joe Molluso at last Tuesday's council meeting.
Cr Molluso called on the council to investigate an alleged incident involving Cr White asking a junior member of council staff for additional information at an outcomes committee meeting.
In his question, Cr Molluso alleged Cr White said junior staff should not be at meetings if he couldn't talk to them directly.
This was after he was allegedly told by the executive manager to direct all inquiries through senior staff.
Cr Molluso said the executive manager told Cr White junior staff were present for training and development.
Cr Molluso said Cr White allegedly responded using words to the effect that training and development were not his problem.
``I understand that a day or two after that incident the executive manager subsequently advised Cr White that he could approach junior staff directly on any council matter,'' Cr Mollusso said in this question.
At last week's meeting, Cr White said he welcomed the report.
But he told the Champion last Thursday that he had barely heard the question because he was talking to other councillors during Cr Molluso's time.
``I know what incident Cr Molluso is talking about, but I don't think he knows what he's talking about,'' Cr White said.
``If Cr Molluso is suggesting anything untoward on my part, he is relying on a great deal of misinformation.
``In fact, a number of his [Liberal councillor] colleagues approached me later to express concern about the nature of the question, so I welcome the report being made public.''
Cr White said he stood by his clean record and was aware of the provision in the council's Code of Conduct which directs councillors to pass all matters through the city manager or director of the department.
