It was all hands on the ground at Fairfield RSL recently for the final of the Kids Helping Kids push-up challenge.
More than 1100 push-ups were completed between a team of local youths and a team of adults to raise money for the Children's Hospital at Westmead over about an hour.
Fairfield police youth liaison officer Senior Constable Sam Cognetta organised the event, with local businesses donating on a dollar per push-up basis.
''Fairfield MP Joe Tripodi came along and added ten push-ups to the tally, as did all the local area commanders, but the students were really the stand out team,'' Snr Constable Cognetta said.
The youth team is made up of 12 students from the local schools, and Snr Constable Cognetta estimates more than $6000 was raised.
''It was a very successful night, the students had been practicing their push-ups with the warm-up event at Neeta City a few weeks ago in preparation for the final,'' he said.
''The youth team will spend some time over at the hospital, seeing what real hardship is for those
young patients, and then presenting them with the money we've raised.''
Snr Constable Cognetta said the idea was developed when he was working at the Cabramatta PCYC
and the local area command would continue to run youth events.
