Fairfield stabbingA fight outside a Fairfield hotel on Saturday morning left a man, 33, with stab wounds to his chest and cuts on his back.
The man was in the hotel's gaming area when he had an argument with a female patron and left after another man stepped in.
He was refused service at the bar and later returned with a metal pole.
The man then argued with about five men, Sergeant Don Jordan said, who took the fight onto Smart Street.
He was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition and police are reviewing CCTV footage.

Car hit in shooting
A woman, 27, returned to her car in Smithfield early on Saturday morning to find a shotgun hole blasted through the driver's door.
The woman parked on Brenan Street at 4am and she found the hole and a smashed window two hours later. Police didn't locate the shotgun shell but found the bullet's exit point in the front guard.

Elderly pedestrian hit
An elderly man is in Liverpool Hospital after being hit by a car on Mimosa Road at Greenfield Park on Thursday night.
The man, 82, was walking along the road at 6.15pm when he started to cross it.
Fairfield Sergeant Don Jordan said the female driver of a car slammed on her brakes but hit the man and a parked car.
He was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition with a broken pelvis, possible broken right leg, and head and mouth wounds.
