Dads like Lester Lobo, pictured here with his son Tyson, are being targetted by the Autism Advisory

and Support Service's new playgroup.

Playgroup coordinator Jo Wittick said that fathers of autistic children sometimes miss out on bonding with their child as much as the mothers do.

''Often dads are at work and doesn't see or deal with the bulk of the behaviour,'' Ms Wittick said.

``All dad has to deal with is an hour after work. But the group isn't only for fathers.''

The playgroup meets on Saturdays from 10am-2pm at Community First Step, 82 Tangerine Street, Fairfield, and runs to a structured program of outside play, circle sessions and interactive games.

The autism service is supported by Community First Step.

Details: Jo, 0411 583 326.
