AUSTRALIA has given the Semadue brothers the gift of a new life, a new school and now the gift of love for AFL.
Komba and Sam, along with several students in Fairfield High School's Intensive English Classes (IEC), have spent the past six weeks learning about the skills of AFL.
But the 15-year-old twins from Fairfield have excelled in the AFL NSW program and are now in line for a scholarship with Holsworthy AFL Club.
Bill Webb, development manager of the Fairfield-Liverpool region, has organised with the committee for the twins to join the Holsworthy Tigers for the 2009 season.
The arrangement includes free registration and organised transport to and from training and matches.
For Komba the past six weeks has ignited a passion for the sport, the reason is simple.
``I love to play, it's my favourite sport,'' Komba said.
``It is friendly, not like rugby.''
The program has been rewarding for the students in the IEC, allowing a time to unwind and engage in the culture of one of Australia's proudest sports.
There has been a positive response from the students which has prompted plans for the school to embrace the sport with AFL posts a possibility in the near future.
With the AFL's plans to expand into western Sydney, the next superstar may come out of Fairfield High School.
