India beckons wrestler

WITH a swag of medals to their names already, Abbotsbury siblings Carissa and Justin Holland now have their sights set on representing Australia in freestyle wrestling.

Justin, 15, will travel to India to contest the Commonwealth Youth Games in October.

Carissa, 14, is too young to qualify for the youth games team but has her eyes on the 2010 Commonwealth Games and the London Olympics.

She is well on her way, after being named best female wrestler in the International Social Sports Institution competition, winning a gold medal in the girls 44kilogram division, and a silver against the boys.

Big brother Justin began the sport almost five years ago after watching a pro-wrestling DVD.

Since then he's chalked up quite a few wins. He trains six times a week at Liverpool's Evolutions Wrestling Academy with coach Fabricio Itte.

``My ultimate goal is to be Australia's first Olympic gold medallist in wrestling and to compete in the Commonwealth Games and World Championships,'' Justin said.

Earlier this year he blitzed the field to win the two Commonwealth Youth Games qualifying events, the Junior Nationals and the Australia Cup.

He leaves for Pune, India, on October 10.

``Words can't describe how proud I am to represent Australia,'' he said.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
