IT SEEMS as though the Bonnyrigg White Eagles have a lot more to play for in the upcoming weeks than just the Super League title.
After speaking to Football NSW General Manager Ian Holmes, the Bonnyrigg White Eagles may find themselves back in the Premier League as early as next year.
``If they finish on top of the Super League competition they become eligible for promotion into the Premier League,'' he said.
The door has crept opened after the Macarthur Rams finished at the bottom of this year's club championship and now face the prospect of relegation.
``At the present moment, Bonnyrigg is in the box seat.
``But they still have to meet certain criteria, which the club has been informed about.''
If the White Eagles are to make a play for the Premier League next season, they need to maintain their position at the top of the Super League table in the remaining three matches of the competition.
They take on Granville Rage, FC Bossy Liverpool and the Central Coast Lightning to round out the regular season. Bonnyrigg are on 40 points, three points clear of PCYC Parramatta and four points clear of FC Bossy Liverpool.
THE possible return of the White Eagles into the Premier League may catch the attention of the Sydney United faithful but the club has more immediate concerns, like their elimination semi-final match against Manly United on August 17. United finished in fifth position and face a big task if they're going to push for premiership glory this year.
THE Marconi Stallions finished the Premier League season in ninth position after a 3-1 loss to Bankstown Lions at Marconi Stadium on Sunday. The Stallions were unable to defeat the Tiger Turf Cup finalists, ending the season with three wins, nine losses, 10 draws.
THE Olyroos begin their Olympics campaign tomorrow night with their first group match against Serbia from Shanghai. They will take on Argentina and the Ivory Coast later in the week.
